Our History
The TIG Business was started in 1989 by Mr. Russell Manser under the name Thompson IG Corporation. The business initially catered to residential window and door companies out of a leased 10,000 square foot facility in Fenton, MI. Since inception, the TIG Business continued to grow by investing in the latest technologies, such as dual-seal insulating glass technology, argon gas filling and fabricating windows with the latest low-E glass coatings, which expanded product offerings and customer base and required the business to relocate to a 62,000 square foot facility (its current home).
In 1995, the TIG Business purchased its first 60” flat-glass tempering oven. It was a small oven that catered nicely to its predominantly residential market and later proved to be an excellent fit for the RV market. In 2000, the decision was made to acquire laminating glass equipment that would later prove to be one of the TIG Business’s best capital investments. Following this investment, the TIG Business became the first glass fabricator with a commercial laminated glass production line in Michigan.
In 2001, Atwood Mobile Products acquired the TIG Business. The name was changed to Atwood Mobile Products “Home of Thompson IG.” In 2003, Atwood was acquired by DURA Automotive in a transaction that included all the Atwood facilities along with a glass company called Spec-Temp, Inc. in Ohio. The Spec-Temp, Inc. acquisition resulted in DURA owning two different glass businesses that resulted in the opportunity in 2004 for Mr. Manser to purchase the TIG Business back from DURA and change the name to Thompson IG, LLC.
In October 2012, a private investor group by the name of Glazestream, LLC purchased substantially all of the TIG net assets from Mr. Manser. Since the acquisition, several million dollars have been invested into the facilities and new equipment that has placed TIG ahead of the regional competition in both in-house capabilities and product offerings. Today TIG is a top-of-the-line window fabricator with state-of-the-art manufacturing operations for glass fabrication, IGUs, heat strengthening and tempering of glass, laminated glass and inkjet printing on glass.
